Integrative Neuroscience at Dartmouth

Hanover, NH
Program Description

The Neuroscience Track of the Program in Experimental and Molecular Medicine
(PEMM) provides opportunities for qualified PhD and MD-PhD students to be educated and highly trained for productive careers in neuroscience research. Students will utilize innovative approaches to investigate basic, translational, and clinical questions in neurobiology. The interdisciplinary nature of our neuroscience track allows an extensive range of interactions with faculty, postdoctoral fellows, physicians, and other students. Our neuroscience faculty members represent departments that span the Arts and Sciences, the Geisel School of Medicine, the Thayer School of Engineering, and the Veteran Affairs Hospital, and have expertise in a full spectrum of neuroscience disciplines, spanning from cellular biochemistry to clinical research. PEMM provides an exciting, interactive atmosphere that fosters the exchange of ideas and approaches, cultivates collaborations, enhances research activities, and promotes bi-directional research opportunities for both basic science and clinical faculty. We pride ourselves in having a training program in neuroscience that is flexible to the needs of our students, allowing them to apply multidisciplinary approaches, often involving multiple laboratories, to pursue research across a wide range of basic, translational, and clinical neuroscience areas using state-of-the-art methodology.

Our current and past students have explored research in areas including, but not limited to, neurodevelopment, cellular and circuit neurophysiology, systems neuroscience, addiction, autism, schizophrenia, epilepsy, language development, and cognition. However, the intrinsic flexibility of the PEMM neuroscience program allow students to engage in research uniquely tailored to their academic interests and goals.
